Bellwether Fiber Company
About:
Bellwether Fiber Company was founded by me, a stay-at-home mom, Navy veteran and Army wife. After leaving the Navy and becoming a stay-at-home mom and Army wife, I felt like I was drifting away at sea without a lifeboat in sight. My husband suggested that I try knitting as way to help with the depression and it really helped helped me gain focus, set goals and feel productive. Besides, our oldest was a baby and there are so many cute knitted things for babies, it was hard not to make them! Soon after I started knitting, I began going further and further down the rabbit hole of being a fiber artist. Now, I wash, comb/card, and dye wool. Spinning yarn is still a work in progress but I'm getting there.
In full honesty, I initially began this company to help provide income for my family. However, as I learned more about becoming a small business owner, I realized that it is a part of a community and as such, I can help other people as well. Wool, yarn and knitted products aren't just for crafty people, everyone can benefit from keeping warm when it's cold or making a new mother feel loved or providing comfort in a time of need. Whether or not you spin wool, knit for yourself or enjoy what someone else has made for you, I believe that a variety of options can help link communities and people together, one product at a time.
Thank you!
